The person in the box is only half the system

Why capture, return audio and the operator matter as much as the display.

A cabinet makes its own scene

Holoconnects describes Holobox as a transparent LCD paired with a controlled light box. The enclosure gives a video subject a defined visual setting. Proto’s M2 represents a smaller device format with live and recorded content workflows. Neither product name is sufficient evidence that the system reconstructs an optical wavefront.

Begin with the intended social task. Is someone delivering a recorded welcome, taking audience questions or appearing as an interactive character? Those experiences may look similar in a photograph but require different capture, networking and content systems.

Rehearse a conversation

For a live speaker, test both directions of the exchange. The audience needs intelligible speech, and the remote speaker needs a useful return view or audio feed. Include an interruption and a question from the side of the room. A smooth prerecorded clip cannot establish how the live conversation will feel.

Record the capture setup used in the demo: camera position, framing, lighting, background and microphone. If the final presenter will connect from another room, test from that room. A supplier’s studio can show what is possible while hiding the practical differences in your planned capture location.

Buy an operating workflow

Agree who loads content, starts the session, manages the return feed and responds when the connection fails. Ask for a local fallback file and demonstrate the handover. These are production suggestions, not claims that either supplier provides every feature in every package.

Proto offers a live-demo request and publishes its Van Nuys headquarters address. Holoconnects provides a demo route for Holobox. Confirm the model, appointment and location directly; a sales contact is not a walk-in showroom promise. Leave with an itemized scope covering the device, software, capture equipment, installation and support—not simply the promise of a person appearing in a box.
