Separate a listing from a project
A manufacturer’s price describes a particular product under particular terms. It may exclude shipping, local taxes, installation or the computer that drives it. The current Voxon and Looking Glass checkout pages are useful places to request or verify equipment pricing, but they do not price your room, content or staffing.
Keep every quote attached to a model, configuration, currency and date. Do not mix an old launch price, a current rental and an installation estimate in one ranked list. If a supplier changes the package, preserve the earlier quote as history and compare the new scope explicitly.
Build the budget from deliverables
Separate equipment, content, installation, transport, software and operating labor. For each line, note what is included and what remains uncertain. A rendered loop can be reused in a different setting, but a room-specific calibration or a life-size capture session may need to be repeated.
The workbench on this site calculates a total from the amounts you enter, then adds your chosen contingency. Its initial figures are illustrative assumptions, not market averages or supplier quotes. Use the model to expose missing lines; replace the assumptions with actual estimates before treating the total as a decision.
Compare ownership with the run
For a short event, ask for a rental or managed production quote as well as a purchase quote when the supplier offers both. Compare the same content, delivery, setup, rehearsal and support scope. A rental with an operator is not equivalent to an unattended hardware purchase.
For a permanent installation, decide how often content changes, who checks the device and what downtime means to the venue. Evaluate those needs over the intended period of use. Any commercial return should be tied to an observable task—ticket income, a completed consultation or a measured retail action—with a baseline. A vendor’s attention or conversion claim is not a forecast for your installation.
